A period drama series for television based on the memoir of Norah Gordon Cleather.
“SW19” is a semi-biographical drama set against the backdrop of the world’s most famous tennis tournament during the tumultuous years between the early 1920s and the end of the Second World War.
It is inspired by the memoir, “Wimbledon Story”, written by Norah Gordon Cleather, a young 21-year-old woman from London who goes to work at the The All England Club and follows her journey as she navigates her way through London life, family drama, romance and her work at Wimbledon with its daily challenges both on and off court. Having always longed to be part of the Wimbledon Championships since seeing her beloved father, Edward Gordon, play at the old Worple Road courts before and during the First World War, Norah is offered her dream role in 1922.
During the 25 years she works there, she progresses from fresh-faced newcomer to Wimbledon stalwart and society figure, culminating in her being the first woman ever to organise the post-war Championships in 1945.
